Aspect College joined the competition way back in ’97 and, although
there are no records of the team’s final table position, it was clear
that they were in it for the long haul.In 1998 Aspect finished
unremarkably in 6th spot; however, that year came runner-up in the
Knockout Cup.
Unfortunately, for the next four years Aspect failed to impress with a
string of mid to low table finishes.
Then in 2003, Chris Harris, who had been coaching
Central College since 2001, took on the vacant coaching position. His
words here are testimony to the glory years for Aspect that followed.
“2003 was the greatest year in the history of Aspect Football. This year
was the start of a golden era which lasted 5 years. With master
player/coach Chris 'teacher' Harris at the helm, the Aspect football
team were unstoppable in 2003, winning an unprecedented league and cup
double. Though the achievements of 2003 weren't repeated, the following
four years produced teams with great skill and passion, always
contending for the title, finishing runners up in ’04 ,third in ’05
(runner up in the knockout), third yet again in ’06 and runners up in
’07.”
The proud, though sometimes ruthless ‘teacher’ Harris, was indeed the
turning point in Aspect football with his team of zero-three. However,
sadly at the end of the 2007 season, Chris left Aspect and returned
whence he had come, to Central College (since renamed GCA) who had
co-incidentally emulated Harris’ efforts of 2003 by doing the double
themselves that year. Good luck Chris.
2008 saw Aspect add the name Kaplan to its logo and
also heralded the arrival of our football freulien Simone Seidel.
Although results failed to reflect the gusto and determination she
applied to the position of coach/manager, the competition benefited
greatly from her positive approach, upbeat attitude and love of the
roundball game. Although holding the reins for only the first half of
the season she was a welcome addition to the co-ordination fraternity.
In June of 2008 she passed those reins over to Mark Isaacs who, with a
sudden influx of gifted players, immediately transformed the team into
the formidable force they are today.
Kaplan Aspect has shown its commitment to its team and the competition
for over a decade now and by all accounts shows no intention of allowing
2003 to be its only triumphant season in the English Language
Association football competition.
